Sweden (Swedish: Sverige [ˈsværjɛ]), officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe.

The flag of Sweden is a Scandinavian cross that extends to the edges of the flag. This Scandinavian cross represents Christianity. Since 1916 day is celebrated on June 6 as Day of the Swedish Flag. In 1983 this day was also declared in the National Afternoon of Sweden. This day was chosen for two reasons: On June 6, 1523 Gustav Vas was elected the king of Sweden, and it began Sweden as independent state, and on the same day in 1809 Sweden adopted the new constitution which established the rights of citizens and allocated them with considerable freedom.
