Taiwan (whale.  expenditure.  臺灣, ex. 台湾, Pinyin:  Táiwān;  the colonial name — Formoza, from port.  ilha Formosa — "The beautiful island") — the island in the Pacific Ocean, in 150 km from east coast of the mainland of China from which it is separated by the Taiwan Strait.
In an international, political and economic context Taiwan is understood as partially recognized state supervising the island of the same name and adjacent islands the Chinese Republic. The largest city and the capital — Taipei.
